Richard Rhodes Drury, of Traverse City, was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Ann Arbor, Baseball was his favorite game, and he played on summer and high school teams, and went on to pitch for the University of Michigan.
He enlisted in the Navy V-12 program while at the university.
Richard was an architect, and in 1958 helped found the Traverse City firm Strong, Drury & Elkins. Among the many buildings he designed are several churches throughout the state, including St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. Mr. Drury died peacefully on Nov. 2, 2004.
